Six in the morning
Blood on the sheets and on my fingers
Hormones racing, baby kicking
Might as well get up
Sleep has eluded me tonight anyway
Open the door
Marvel at the beauty of our lives
The sun is peeping through the low clouds
The sounds of Master X awakening
Fills me with love and hope.
But there is no more sleep for us
I make a cup of tea
Wipe my blood stained fingers on the kitchen towel
Stir the milk and sugar
Thinking about the future, our lives, our love
This morning I am awake before dawn thanks to a persistent blood nose all night. It covered my sheets and my hands, reminding me of a horror show. I had these with the last pregnancy too, about this time. Something about hormones, the changing temperate air and dryness in the environment all work to make these (in the last pregnancy anyway) a regular occurrence. They do little harm according to my doctor, but are annoying. And last time having a humidifier helped out butt his joyous machine is in Master X’s room because it seems to help him sleep better.
Really though, nothing helps that kid sleep. He still wakes every night for Mr A to go and lay with hi for the remainder, leaving me alone and cold. Although I guess technically I am no longer alone…
When I was pregnant with Master X I would get these blood noses throughout the day, wrecking havoc on my work life as I was teaching at the time. I would be sitting at my desk, getting ready for a class and then whoosh – a stream of blood would come from my nose. It was pretty annoying and a little embarrassing. I knew I couldn’t control them but I still felt like I should, if you know what I mean?
Pregnancy has some weird ailments and some are easier to deal with than others. I am not happy with this one especially as it woke me so early in the morning of a long weekend. Better go and get an ice pack as it is starting again…
